Gunman Kills DSS Personnel, Shoots DPO in Cross River

 

NEWS FLAKES NG gathers that the Cross River State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a personnel of the Directorate of State Service, DSS, Michael Orusede, who was stabbed in Obanliku Local Government Area of the state by a gunman suspected to be Cultist.

The incident reportedly occurred when the DSS Personnel attempted to disarm a suspected gunman who was said to have been shooting sporadically at a public event earlier.

The gunman after stabbing the DSS personnel also shot the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the Obanliku Police Division, DSP Mike Okon at close range before escaping from the scene.

An eyewitness, Denis Ogar, who described the gunman as cultist, said the incident happened at about 5pm in Sankwala, headquarters of Obanliku LGA on Saturday.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Irene Ugbo confirmed the incident.

Ugbo said the DPO was shot but was unhurt because he was wearing a bullet proof vest. She explained that the DSS operative was stabbed after he had successfully disarmed the gunman of his gun. But unknown to Orusede, the gunman had a knife with which he launched an attack as the security personnel approached him.

She said investigations have commenced into the incident.
