Five – time ballon D’or winner, Lionel Messi and team, Barcelona were shocked by Bottom-placed side Leganes on Wednesday night as the Liga champions were hit by a second-half sucker-punch to lose 2-1.
Barca went into the match off the back of a 2-2 Camp Nou draw against Girona at the weekend, and looked to be back in form as Philippe Coutinho handed them a 1-0 first-half lead.
However, Leganes scored two goals in as many minutes shortly after the break, with Nabil El Zhar levelling in the 52nd minute before Oscar Rodriguez Arnaiz hit the decisive goal for the hosts a minute later.
Unbelievable. Barcelona took the lead through Philippe Coutinho and looked set to go on to record a routine win at Butarque, but two Leganes goals (scored by El Zhar and Oscar) within a minute early into the second half turned the match on its head and the champions were unable to get back into it after that.
Valverde’s rotations will obviously be questioned, with Thomas Vermaelen disappointing in particular, but the Catalans appeared to have this match under control and Real Madrid can move three points clear tonight if they beat Sevilla at the Sanchez Pizjuan…
