The Ogun state government has warned residents of the state to desist from the habit of dumping refuse in highways.

The government insisted that it has become an offence to dump refuse on the highway in any part of the state.

NEWS FLAKES NG observes that the administration of Senator Ibikunle Amosun had encouraged the people in the state to dump refuse beside and on the median of the roads for the officials of ministry to pack.

But, the new government in a statement by the Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Environment, Ola Oresanya said the government has decided to change the policy of the former administration.

Oresanya maintained that the state would not hesitate to deal with recalcitrants by arresting and prosecuting them.

He said “for people that are recalcitrant, there are some people, no matter how much you encourage them, they will want to test your capacity, we have enforcement team to arrest them .

“We have local government enforcement team that goes about to arrest them and take them to court

“We will soon end dumping of refuse on highway .”

Oresanya also announced the establishment of Ogun state Waste Management Authority to take care of new policy on waste management.

He said, “we have changed the tide in the style of waste management in the state before.

” Before now, the process had been waste collection on the major roads and our people are encouraged to dump refuse on the roads and they have been picking it before now.

“We have to change the tide . The new process now is to ensure refuse collection at the door step and house-to-house waste collection.

“We don’t allow waste to come to the roads that is the first step and that publicity is going on in that area.” (Platform times)
