The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, has announced another 745 new cases of #COVID19; bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 18,480 with 475 deaths as of late Thursday night June 18, 2020.
NEWS FLAKES NG observed that Lagos once again led the pack of states with new confirmed cases, recording a total of 280 in the last 24hrs while Oyo claimed the second spot with 103 cases within same period under review.
Details of the new recorded cases across the country are as follows;
Meanwhile, despite rumours of COVID19 - related deaths and suspicious cases earlier in the day as reported in some quarters, Cross river state still maintained its COVID19 - free status following latest updates from the NCDC as of the time of filing this report.
Earlier in the day, a lawmaker from the state, Godwin Akwaji, lawmaker representing Obudu constituency at the Cross River state House of Assembly was reportedly sick and hospitalized while many have raised suspicion about the ailment on COVID19 symptoms.
Shortly after, he was reported dead at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) Isolation centre, allegedly showing symptoms of COVID-19 complications by an online medium.
This has however been debunked by the state Commissioner for Health, Dr Betta Edu, when contacted by NEWS FLAKES NG.
"He has been sick treating himself at home. It’s this morning I asked them to move to hospital against all odds. We have taken samples and we will send for investigation", she explained.
