Students in Ogun under the aegis of National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS) and National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) on Saturday issued a 21-day ultimatum to Gov. Dapo Abiodun to appoint a substantive Commissioner for Education.
Addressing a press conference in Abeokuta, NAOSS National President Mr Oluwagbemileke Ogunrombi, flanked by NANS chairman in Ogun, Bamgbose Tomiwa, said the students would not hesitate to embark on protest until the request was met.
SATURDAY FLAKES reports that Ogunrombi appealed to the governor to appoint a core educationalist with track records of unprecedented achievements to actualise his visions of delivering a quantitative and qualitative education to the people of the state.
He posited that the students remained a major stakeholder in the education sector, saying that it would not fold arms and watch the sector collapsed as a result of leadership vacuum.
“We wish to register our displeasure and disappointment at the governor’s refusal to appoint a commissioner for the Ministry of Education despite numerous calls from stakeholders in the sector and a large section of the people of the state.
“The governor has refused to come out publicly to address the issue neither has he given any cogent reason why such an important Ministry like Education has remain without a substantive Commissioner for over one year.
“We have so far tolerated this disregard for too long and we can no longer take it anymore, therefore, we want to issue a 21-day ultimatum to Gov. Abiodun to appoint an experienced professor and a core educationalist as the substantive Commissioner.

The NAOSS national president said that the students believed in the governor’s leadership capacity and trust his ability to turn around the fortunes of education in the state for good.
He appealed to him to shop for a credible, reliable and capable Ogun indigene from tertiary institutions across the country to appoint as a commissioner for education.
